Merlo: Digitalization to win competitiveness
Maximum alert on the risk of hacker attacks on port structures, with the aim of causing their collapse.
An increasingly significant number of Port System Authorities, including those of Genoa and Savona and that of Venice, are the target of hacker attacks, denounces Luigi Merlo, President of Federlogistica.
In fact, maritime activities and ports have suffered a 900% increase in attacks in the last three years.
The main European ports – explains President Merlo – have been inserted by their respective governments in the NIS directive (Network and Information Security) while our competent dicastery does not move and the Port System Authorities, who would immediately need to have a Cyber Manager, are forced to navigate by sight”.
“We are reacting to an offensive projected towards the future with advanced means and technology – concludes Merlo – with times, will and nineteenth-century methodologies, forgetting once more that the challenge of competitiveness, in ports as in the whole country, is played and it wins not only on material infrastructures, but also and, perhaps, especially on digitization“.
